Kaan Ya Makaan, Fee Qadeem Al-Zamaan…
There was a Place, in Times of Old…

Called Al-Madinah where Muhammad PBUH was telling his Sahaba a story. He said:

A man was walking along and feeling very thirsty. So he climbed down into a well and drank his fill of water from it. When he climbed out, he beheld a dog that was panting and chewing mud so great was its thirst.

The man said to himself, "This dog is as desperate for water as I was."

So the man climbed back down into the well and filled his shoe with water. He then gripped the water-filled shoe in his teeth, climbed back out of the well and gave the thirsty dog some water.

The dog thanked God for the man’s kindness, so God forgave the man all his sins.

Muhammad's PBUH Sahaba said, "Ya Rassul Allah (O Messenger of God), are good deeds to be earned from animals?"

Muhammad PBUH replied, "There are good deeds to be earned from every kabidun ratib (moist liver i.e. living creature)."

Another time, Muhammad PBUH told his Sahaba warningly:

A woman went to hell because of a cat. She confined it and starved it to death by neither feeding it nor giving it water. She also did not allow the cat to catch and eat insects or vermin.

While Muhammad PBUH was traveling with some of the Sahaba, he left the group briefly to relieve himself. In his absence, some of the men spied a nest with a mother-bird and two nestlings in it so they climbed the tree and took the nestlings.

Upon his return, Muhammad PBUH saw a bird fluttering frantically around some of the men. Disapprovingly, he demanded, "Who has caused her to worry about her children so? Return her children to her."

As soon as Muhammad PBUH finished speaking, the abashed men hurriedly returned the two nestlings to their nest and their frantic mother.
