Randa Abdel Fattah - Good Books About Islam
Modern Day

Kaan Ya Makaan, Fee Hadir Al-Zamaan…
There was a Place, in Current Times…

Where people often ask me to recommend a "good book about Islam". Well, most of the books out there are inaccurate to put it politely. I often find myself grumbling something about fools and media whores when reading books that purport to be about Islam. Then one day, at a local library, I saw a strange looking book with polka dots and part of a woman's head on it. When I picked it up, the title read Does My Head Look Big In This? by Randa Abdel Fattah.

Intrigued, I opened the book, flipped through a few pages, and decided to check it out of the library and take it home with me. Although the book by no means portrayed the "perfect muslima", whatever that is, it did portray a very funny, very real one. I was hooked. Once I finished reading the book, I got on Amazon.com and ordered several copies of it. In the meantime, I started recommending it to friends and family. Once the books arrived, I started giving copies to the friends who always asked me to recommend a "good book about Islam".

I also badgered one of my sisters into reading it but she resisted for quite some time. She, like me, had read many "books about Islam" and had not wanted to crack the cover of any such thing again. When she finally did read it, Amazon.com got another order for several books. Also, her local library, which did not own a copy of the book, received a book donation.

What is this story about? It is about a wonderful author who wrote a book that breathed a little fun and reality into many people's lives. If you haven't read any of Randa Abdel Fattah's books, then please do. They are SO funny! And they're "good books about Islam". I especially recommend Does My Head Look Big In This? and Ten Things I Hate About Me.

So thank you Randa Abdel Fattah for writing such wonderful books!

Hmmm...adding this one to my wishlist at Amazon. I eejnyod the Persepolis books and this sounds a little like them in concept. Cute cover too. Congrats on adding a new kitty to the family, btw. :)
